VSP Investigating Multi-Vehicle Accident
June 11th, 2020 – Multi-Vehicle Crash in Fairfax County, VA involving a tow truck and multiple cars. The accident resulted in one fatality, as well as the closure of the Outer Loop of I-495 in Fairfax.
Fairfax County recently saw a tragic road accident, involving multiple vehicles. A Mercedes-Benz M35 struck Derrick A. Marbury, a 49-year old tow truck driver who died at the scene. The multi-vehicle crash happened at 10:22 PM and required the Outer Loop of I-495 to be closed for over seven hours. The fatality was caused by a series of chain reactions. Mr. Marbury, a tow truck driver, was out of his truck helping a motorist who was experiencing issues on the road when a Honda Pilot, traveling southbound along I-495, rear ended a Ford Edge causing it to swerve into the right shoulder of the highway and collide with the parked tow truck. In an attempt to get out of the way, Derrick A. Marbury, the operator of the tow truck, was hit by the Mercedes and died at the scene. Police are currently investigating the accident.
This unfortunate event is a stark reminder of the importance of road safety in the state of Virginia and elsewhere.
